Medical Skin Needling

Do you have sun-damaged or acne-scared skin?
Would you like to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles?
Then this could be the treatment for you!
Medical Skin Needling, also known as Collagen Induction Therapy is a procedure that stimulates the skin to re-generate and repair itself naturally and safely, resulting in smoother, healthier and younger looking skin.

How does Medical Skin Needling work?
The micro needles penetrate the top layers of the skin and create pinpoint injuries in the deeper layers. This controlled damage to the skin surface does not cause any scarring, but triggers the body’s natural wound healing response.
The concept of skin needling is based on the skin’s natural ability to repair itself whenever it encounters physical damage, such as cuts, burns or other abrasions.
Immediately after an injury occurs to the skin, the body removes the damaged collagen, elastin and other structures which are then replaced by the new components.
As a result, the damage encourages the body to produce new collagen and elastin which generate new skin cells to repair itself. The skin becomes thicker, plumper and more youthful.

What results can I expect to see?
Visible signs of skin rejuvenation can usually be seen after just six weeks following the treatment, and will continue to improve over the following months. The results from a micro needling treatment are permanent.

Pigmentation

A course of three Skin Needling treatments, at six weekly intervals is recommended to achieve optimum results. However, in some cases people with severe acne scarring may need up to five treatments.

What does the treatment involve?
Firstly, the area being treated is cleansed and a local anaesthetic cream is applied, to minimise any discomfort.
A sterile titanium Medik8 dermaroller is then rolled over the surface of the skin, which creates thousands of tiny pin pricks into the skin, to encourage the production of new collagen and elastin, so that the skin regenerates itself from within.
The treatment also involves the application of specialist skin care products, which dramatically increase the penetration deep into the skin, increasing its efficiency where they are most needed.
Products for home use are included.

How will I look after the treatment? Down time?
Most people experience redness and mild swelling, in a similar way to mild or moderate sunburn for 24–48 hours, and there may be minimal pinpoint bleeding/or bruising.
The skin may also feel warm, tight, sensitive and dry/itchy for a short while.
After the 48 hours, the skin will be completely healed, and there will be barely any evidence that the procedure has taken place.
People with sensitive skin may take a little while longer.

Is Medical Needline safe?
Yes, skin needling has been practiced by Doctors, Nurses and Aesthetic Practitioners worldwide for more than 25 years, with no negative side effects.
